Ganj Dundawara

Ganjdundwara (गंजडुंडवारा) is a city and a municipal board in district of Kanshiram Nagar (Kasganj) of Aligarh division in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[1] Ganjdundwara had a population of 41,245. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Ganjdundwara has an average literacy rate of 44%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 51%, and female literacy is 38%. In Ganjdundwara, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. National river Ganges flows around 15 km away in NE direction and well connected via road. One of the longest bridge is under construction over the Ganges (at Kadirganj) which is about 15 km from town.

Education

Ganjdundwara has a number of private and public schools and colleges. The medium of instruction in almost all educational institutions is predominantly Hindi. But from the last few years the city emerges towards the English culture. A number of English medium schools are still developing to sustain the well education system.

Ganjdundwara (P.G.) College is affiliated to Dr B R Ambedkar University, Agra. Once, it was the only degree college in the region after Agra. Students from various states come here for study. The following courses are available:

Industry

Ganjdundwara is famous for its HandLoom Industry. You can listen to the buzzing of textiles machines all over the town.

State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Gramin Bank, Urban Co-operative Bank and District Co-operative Bank cater for the banking needs of merchants and residents of this town and nearby areas.

Ministry of Broadcasting has a Doordarshan Relay Center running on UHF band. Area covered up to 45 km.

The town is also known for agricultural work shop like Tractor trolleys, Cultivators, Thrashers, bricks industry etc.

Transport

Ganjdundwara is situated on the Kanpur-Farrukhabad-Kasganj-Mathura BG line. Station code is GWA. All short distance trains stop here. Kasganj Jn, around 35 kms away from here, has halts of all trains. The town is also connected to Etah (situated on NH 91) via road. UPSRTC provides various bus services to and from Delhi (Anand Vihar ISBT), Agra, Aligarh via Etah and Kasganj. Most of the buses from Delhi are available in evening.
